Now there was a funny place - Ablex was the place in Birmingham that duplicated all the Ocean (and many other 80's software houses) casettes and disks.
Many a time we worked through night finishing a product then off in a Ocean van to Ablex to get the master setup, signed off, duplicated and back in the van with the games.
Two notable things about Ablex - most of the dupe machines were "manned" by lots of randy Brummy housewives - you had to avoid the canteen like the plague "alright darlin'... inn-eee cute... come 'ere darlin" Shudder!
The other was the "infamous" Paul Harrison - Ocean's man on the "shop floor" at Ablex - a man that reduced many a programmer to tears (as on several occasions games were debugged at the last minute in the mastering room!)... He had one hell of a "strong" personality (and that's me being polite!)
Them were the days!

Ablex, yep they were the days. As Paul says, all night testing sessions, living of crisps - yep they were the days. Glad there well behind me now.
I remember one time being taken to Ablex in thick fog, going at about 80 mph down the motorway in the Ocean van. Crazy days...
With regards to Paul Harrison. I never had a real problem with him, although he certainly did have a way with words. Most of them tended to start with f&^% off, or bo$$ocks.

Hi Lee.. how the devil are you? I remember when I first started and I was so scared of Paul I used to make you call him all the time, just so I wouldn't get screamed at! Everyone had warned me so much about him I was petrified.

Hi Lorraine, I can't believe you still slogging it out in the business. How long is it now? With regards to Paul, my most lasting memory is coming into work one morning (in the basement) and seeing him laying into Gavin (verbally) and reducing the poor lad close tears. Yep, when Paul had a go, he had ago. And he used to have some really strange sayings.... I also remeber that Simon used to really like Paul .....NOT
