re The New Zealand Story
MOTHERF--KENKIWIBAST--D versus FLUFFYKIWIS
Complete polar opposites I notice. What was that all about then? I mean, there must be short story in there somewhere?
This cheat even makes it into Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Do programmers put any serious thought into this particular aspect? Anything to declare?

I think that's a question for Colin Gordon or Gerald Weatherup to answer

Actually, this was my idea You see, cheat codes are a necessity for every game in order for the testers to play each/any level repeatedly. In those days, we also had to give the codes out to the magazines so that they could review the entire game, rather than just one or two early levels. Problem was, they took advantage of this and the following month after the review, they always published the cheat codes. This really started to hack me off and so I suggested to Colin that the code be unprintable - something so rude that the magazines could not publish it. Well, it was implemented (with a deliberate spelling error so that it could not be spelt with asterisks, etc), but one or two mags still published it! As an addendum to this story, we actually took a lot of heat from the 'proper' press as we had embedded a 'disgusting' phrase in a children's game and that was unacceptable. Those stories didn't explain however, that the phrase never appeared on-screen. It's probably the only cheat code, from all of those hundreds of games/formats, that I will never forget!
