Dear all, You may or may not be aware that Paul died just over a week ago of heart problems. Not an old guy late 50's I guess. Love him or loathe him there is no denying that he was part of the fabric of what made Ocean Software special. RIP Millar

Paul, I had no idea. Completely gutted. He was one of those people with a (very) rough and brusque exterior, but he genuinely had a very kindly disposition.... just well-hidden! I am truly saddened by this news. He was larger than life, I'm sure everyone would agree, and will always be remembered by me with great affection. Rest easy, Klon.

Hi Gary, Gutted also . As "brusque" as he was he only ever did good things for Jayne and I . Always found that if yiu stood up to him and fought your corner he'd respect you more. However you couldn't of paid me enough to be in Gavin's shoes. What's the tale behind "Klondike" ? If you look at the memoriams in the Echo on line his mates refer to him as that.
Paul

Jon told me the story that someone once likened him to Klondike Bill (who was some sort of wrestler, I think) and the nickname stuck. Most shortened it to 'Klon'. That's as much as I know. Sent you a PM, by the way. After your comment, I just checked out the announcements in the Echo here.Reading it made me shed more than one tear, I'll tell you.

Blimey, that's terrible.
For all the many (many) trips I took to Ablex, I never once crossed swords with Paul - I saw him reduce many a person to tears, but he was always pleasant and typically jovial with me.
I guess in business sometimes you just need to cut through the B.S. to get the job done done - and that is what Paul could undoubtedly do.
Rest in peace.
- Paulie.

I am truly upset to hear the sad news about Paul and I know that Kate will also be.
Much as Paul terrified me in my early days at Ocean, I had the fortune to have to go on a trip to Ablex with him.. after which I had the most utmost respect for him. He was like a different person - right down to the china tea service in his office there.
Kate and I went for a drink with him on a couple of occasions outside of work and he was a perfect gentleman and good company with lots of fascinating stories. Ocean definately would not have been the same without him. I came to know him as someone who would go out of his way to help you, as long as you didn't piss him off!
Paul, any chance of providing the copy from the Echo?

I've not been to this site for a while and mist quite a few threads, but was shocked to hear about Paul H.
Paul was a very strong character who would always let you know where you stood with him, and this certainly made him stand out.
Because of the years that I worked at Ocean, I shall always remember Paul, as I am sure will Gary and Lorraine and all of the other ex Ocean employees who worked with Paul over many years.
May he Rest In Peace.

I have only just vistied this forum today and am very sad to hear paul died I worked with him in the warehouse for a few years he was a top guy. I have very fond memories working with him he was a very fair man and treated us warehouse boys like his own. Out all the jobs i have done in the past i can honestly say he was the best boss i ever had.
