In 1988 I was 17 years old and had a place on a YTS at the local computer training establishment in Scunthorpe. All the 'trainees' were heavily into gaming and when the management asked us for ideas for a day trip away from the centre - we all suggested a visit to a software house.
We couldn't quite believe it when we were told that they had managed to arrange a trip to Ocean Software HQ in central street Manchester.
Even though it was nearly 20 years ago, I still remember it pretty well.....
Just looking at the pics on the site brought a few things flooding back to me, particularly the little alcoves, and I seem to remember being very jealous of somebody playing Dungeon Master on an Atari ST, which to a C64 owner looked amazing!!
I vaguely remember seeing Steve Collier (Green Beret?) and a few others who's names I recognised from the games - unfortunately I really wanted to meet Martin Galway, but don't think he was in - Jonathan Dunn was there I think.
Gary Bracey said cheerio when we left and told us to get in touch if we had any games which Ocean might be interesting in releasing - I remember thinking that our world of learning COBOL couldn't be more far removed from the excitement for Ocean software. Oh and we all got an Ocean T Shirt - think I've still got it!!

It really was a great experience. To sad geeks like us lot it was like hanging out back stage with a bunch of rock stars!
The retro scene gives me such a good feeling, probably because I was so happy, young and carefree. A lot of my friends tell me to 'live in the now' but somehow I just can't seem to shift those halcyon days from my mind.
The other day I got laughed at cos I was listening to 'Project Galway' in the car and mate said it was just 'hideous noise' - can't stand people who dont appreciate SID Music.....am I weird?
