These were (and still are) two of my favourites on the CPC. They really show some respectable coding and pixel pushing (although some of you winge about the non-scrolling issue). Menu screens on them were pretty similar, I guess it was a matter of recycling code. Did you people recycle code when programming games, or where they all coded from scratch? Not that I know anything about programming, but I guess a standard colission detection code can be reused to infinity with only a few tweaks. You certainly made some magic on that Manchester crypt. Thanks for keeping me home rather than creating havoc down on the streets .

The two mentioned games were by Ocean's resident Amstrad wizard John Brandwood, with GFX by Mark Jones Senior. I was first introduced to John with "This is Johhny Amstrad".
We tended to reuse/refine as much as was humanly possible as the timelines were short - no point rewriting the colour scrolls, the multiplexors and the triggering systems.
That may account for why the majority of our film tie-ins where very platform based! Crates Galore! ;D

Mind you, BJ and Andy Deaks used to have a competition for who could write the smallest chunk of Z80 to deal with redefining the keys on Spectrum and Amstrad!

Regarding Amstrad wizardry, I remember someone handing me a line of code that once keyed into the CPC 464 it would make a complete mess out of it (sort of an 80's blue screen of death). The computer would hang displaying random characters on the screen. Only way to get back to normal at that point was to switch it off and on again.
Unfortunately I lost that piece of paper some ages and a half ago although I'd like to try that on an emulator to see the effect.
Been searching round the net to no avail, I wonder if any of you know anything about this, or what the code was.

There used to be one for the Speccy
RANDOMIZE USR 1010
We used to go into John Menzies' and type offensive messages followed by this line. How we laughed.

Hi Ocean's team. I'm a french fan of the great game Renegade, on Amstrad CPC (apologize for my english). I need to contact John Brandwood or anybody who has worked with him. Why? Because i need to learn the legend : the only cheat code of Renegade (since 18 years arghm!), able to turn blue blood in red. A secret which has been dissimulated for a too longer time, indeed!? I know it is possible to do it with pressing the entire keyboard of the Amstrad in the same time... But it's just so savage. How obtain red blood with delicacy? A kiss and a big thank to Ocean Team. After my Amstrad, i've purchased an Amiga 500 (then a 1200, then a 4000t . So many hours of furious gaming with your games and conversions from coin-op. Even if i must admit i don't have buy all my games, i'm proud to have purchased the most populars (Bad dudes, Robocop, Beach volley, etc.) THANKS FOR THOSE PIECES OF MEMORY. Chris.

Another satisfied cutomer! We must have done SOMETHING right. Chris, I know that John B occasionally monitors this forum, so you may get a direct response from him. However, it was a long time ago, and so I can't guarantee he will remember the cheat code for that.....

Cut'n'paste from an amstrad website. Can't vouch for it though as I had a '64. Not so much a cheat, however those sick of blue blood should hold down "w" "a" "d" "s" "o" and the spacebar during play. You might need to do it a few times and the blood is now red as well as it pouring from the heads. Neat effect.
