My local branch of WHSmug is getting worse - Last week they didn't get RG in till a few days after it came out, and I noticed they didn't have Games(TM) in today (though they had removed the old issue).

Yes Darren did well with the feature. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up with his own mag soon.

So what you reckon to it all then? There's a good 17 pages there and Butler gets 2 all to himself! It felt quite strange actually, there I was in Manchester going to get a computer magazine cos it had stuff about us lot in there. Got mine from WHSimths in the Arndale. Hadn't done that since 1991! Shame they got the web addy wrong! (Though anyone with ANY internet experience can work out what's missing!) Oh and , surprise surprise, I've got it all scanned in now but OBVIOUSLY I WON'T be doing anything with it. Don't ask me for a copy. You go out and buy the mag! I've preserved it for posterity!

I haven't fully read it (just got my daughter to bed, so I probably will get chance now! ).. but it looks very impressive. It seems the whole retro section is a Ocean tribute, which is really cool. Nice to see that Darren has focused mainly on the 8-bit stuff too this month.

Just out of interest, could someone describe the cover for me. It's just that I'm living in Canada now and I want to make sure I order the correct one!
Thanks.

Nice to see that Darren has focused mainly on the 8-bit stuff too this month. Yes I agree - It's nice to see a lot of 8-bit coverage, as the retro section has had a lot of SNES and MegaDrive games featured in the past. Darran has greatly improved the section, especially over the last few issues. As for the Ocean feature - It's very good. Obviously he has used this site and forum for a lot of the material (contacting the interviewees etc) but that's fair enough. No mention of The Hit Squad label, unfortunately. For a retro section that is put together by one person, it's a great result. I've probably missed it in another thread, but what is David Ward up to these days? Does he know about this site and forum? Obviously it would have been nice to see an interview with him (I found it hilarious that his name used to go on the early inlays as 'Producer'). One more question while I am here - What was the last release on the 'Imagine' label and why was the label made dormant?

He's something ilke the company director for ifone now. A quick Google search brings up www.ifone.com/ The address being: iFone Ltd. Merchants' Warehouse 21 Castle Street Castlefield Manchester M3 4SW If it is the right one then he's still in Manchester. Apparently he was contacted about the magazine article and agreed to contribute but then didn't. Probably the pressures of business. Shame he didn't though, would have been interesting to hear what he had to say about it all now. I'm sure too that he MUST be aware of the website and has probably been reading some of the posts on here. Maybe he's one of the 'Guests' you see browsing every now and again. I bet a million quid he won't join up though!

Yup! The very same one. He's the head honcho at iFone (got a few mates that work there).
I beleive Jon Woods still has some dealings in the games industry still, plus he is one of the head honchos at Everton FC.
Two very astute business men!

The Ocean feature seems to be going down well. A few message on the GamesTM forum read:
"I'm still ploughing my way through this months Retro section, but am loving it so far. The Ocean article is without doubt one of, if not THE best GamesTM Retro article to yet appear - a real joy to read. Not only that, but the layout and general look is fantastic, and it's obvious the person behind the article design has really put their all into it. "
"Another big thumbs up for the Ocean article. I never realised Ocean were responsible for so many of the games I grew up playing (being of such an age I rarely paid any attention to the box or instructions). The feature made me feel all nostalgic whilst providing a fascinating insight into the one who ruled the roost before EA! I stayed in bed most of the morning reading the whole mag cover to cover, and it was great as always."
"It's Looking good so far. I read the main feature with the usual enthusiasm, it was great to see some respect paid to former legends."

I'm now being quoted from other forums Seriously, it was a cracking article, and I'd be quite interested if Darran did another in a few months time with some in-depth interviews with a few more of you, and possibly interviews with Jon Woods and David Ward.

It's great to hear all the nice feedback guys To be honest though, it wouldn't have been possible without all the help I received from Gary, Simon, Mark (to name but a few) and of course Bill for his fantastic site. Ocean games represented some of my favourite gaming moments in my youth, so its been a real honour to share my childhood love with so many other people. Thanks again guys
