Si could write a book on this ;D absolute! That was a joy to read ALL that Simon said and as a GAMER i learned a few things here and there.. About success in the gaming industry today.. i wonder one thing. Do you think a legendary person as " matthew smith" could sell a game today for the sinclair zx spectrum and earn a fortune, just coz his "name" ? though he is currently working on a pc title today

Alright Big Si,
Miss working with you! No one here knows how to rant properly!
Agree with you on just about everything. We've whittled it down to 'We're making games for Chavs' If your average 'Burberry Ape' can grasp your idea in 5 seconds you're possibly onto a winner. If you're working on anything else you're pissing in the wind.

Hi Andy...
Good to hear from you again...mind you young fella..you can rant with the best of em...we should get some screaming matches going at the frighteningly vapid bug-brained galoots who populate what's left of the once mighty UK games industry.
Peter Molyneaux.
Dear God...don't get me started. A legend in his own imagination with the world and his dog lapping at his turds like licklespittles.
Who died and put him in charge?
Black and white? Cack and shite!

They aren't happy unless there's oceans of blood to wade through or you can throw handgrenades into babies buggies. They want a backstory that even Clive barker would consider over the top and cliched. They want two hours of FMV with voices done by Sir Ian McKellan and Clive Owen. They want the box artowrk and the manual illustrations done by Frank Miller or Simon Bisley. They want the music done by Nine Inch Nails. They all want taking outside, wrapping in barbed wire and burning AMEN!!!

Whilst I agree with what you say Simon, I do think it's a bit hypocritical you saying it.
I mean, you used to work for Ocean - who in there day were just like EA churning out mundane licences and sometimes a good game (sorry guys, but this is my true opinion of Ocean).
Is a lot of this just sour grapes on your part? I get the impression that a lot of it is.

We knew what we were and for the most part were completely frustrated by what we were producing... We wanted to put out original product but they didn't make the kind of money that licenses did. We agreed with a lot of what the press said about our games. We never thought that anything we did was "clever" or "new" or radical or innovative. THAT is where we are complately different from Mr Molyneaux. And what do I have to be sour about? I would not work on one of his titles if he paid me.
I have no desire to churn out pompous rubbish. I'm happy plotting my pixels.

Hiya Bri
Where did you vanish too?
One minute happy chats, next *whoosh* sound of tumbleweeds blowing through the office.
Good to hear you're still alive!

Hi Dawn. Once again, with the exception of Lorraine of course, you are in the midst of 'Bloke-land'!!!
Hope all is well with you. Drop me a line when you can - lots to catch up on!
