hi, i'm Gauthier. I'm french and still on Amstrad after all these years. I'm particulary fan of J.Dunn & M.Cannon's work. And Dawn Drake too.

Hi guys, I dont know if any of you will remember me as I was only in your presence for 5 or 6 months. I was an office junior/general dogsbody with you in early 1991 before I left to join the R.A.F. One particular memory I have of my time there is the 9 oclock run I had to make to either A. mcdonalds or B. sandwich shop in albert square. Oh and also the absolute non-stop piss taking from Simon Butler. Man you were and absolute b*stard sometimes. although I do actually look back on most of those ribbings with a smirk.

Greetings,
You're not alone in your appraisal of my behavious back then. I'd like to think I've changed, I suppose "mellowed with age" is the phrase.
But ribbing the children was always a favourite sport. A tad easy I thought, a bit like throwing water on chickens or shooting fish in a barrel. But I suppose my childish sense of humour made this appealing at the time.
If it has deep and lasting effects then I apologise immensely. If it hasn't...what can I say?

Mellowed with age? Not by some of your postings on here you haven't. But if anything they set me up for a life in the air force. Believe me the first year or so of any forces career resembles a day in the presence of you in the crypt. If anything you set me in good stead, so thanks for that. Still in the air force by the way, at this time I am in a rather mountainous country in asia. Good luck with your pixel pushing Simon, and thanks again.
Dale

Simon is now going to spend the rest of his life wary of any low-flying fighter jets.......

Greetings Dave.
It's a funny old world. I was in Strasbourg this week having an interview with someone 20 years younger than me and he kept getting all "reverential" because I was "THE" Simon Butler.
Apparently it's playing games that I and my peers had developed that got him wanting to get into the industry.
Oh dear, one should never meet one's idols. They can only disapoint.
I'll have to point him in the direction of this worthy hangout and let him chat to the rest of his heroes.
He jabbers on about Ocean non stop. Seems we did something right then. I shall continue to pop in even from jolly France just to annoy you all.

I hope all this travel is broadening the mind even more than normal. You still slogging away in Germany?

Nope, The Yanks came into the picture and in their infinite wisdom decided to close down the games development side of things, which was kind of weird because the company they bought was a games development team.
So as from the start of August I'll be working in France.
Sacre beaujolais and bon appetit!

Good luck with that, Simon. Whereabouts are you? (I was in Epernay last weekend... for the obvious reasons!)

From August onwards, for two weeks every month the lovely city of Strasbourg must learn to tolerate this baldy old scouser.
Anyone who wants to come out and visit is more than welcome.

Excellent! I was there in April (went to Alsace on a wine trip). You can get completely pissed on a good bottle of Pinot Blanc or a (very nice FRENCH) Riesling for peanuts. Enjoy!!
