How did you get into the industry?

Ok, so we've heard how Gary & a few of the others got involved with Ocean, but how did you first get into the games industry? I'm guessing that most of the programmers taught themselves & then applied for jobs, but did the graphic artists among you ever plan to get into the games industry?
