An updated version of Rastan done properly with better animation would be really sweet...I think that's a good idea.

So what system would you prefere to remake it for? What about a decent version of Double Dragon for the Speccy? Here's a screen shot I made earlier. ;D Seriously though. I need a Speccy coder for this project, I have the AY music sitting on my PC, most of the graphics are done (although I'd rather redo them again) so if any Speccy programmers are interested, then please let me know.

I dont care much for speccy games but Swainy ur remake / redo of speccy double dragon looks really great ;D I just read the speccy double dragon review and those screenshots are awful..... ftp.worldofspectrum.org/pub/sinclair/magazines/YourSinclair/Issue38/Pages/YourSinclair3800042.jpgThe review says double dragon is from Melbourne House so just wondering if u guys are only remaking Ocean games or you are remaking any game ? In regards to Rastan on cpc the animation wasnt the only problem with the game but would make it so much better. The graphics had so much flicker and There wasnt much sound either. Hope you lads can give it a crack - would be fantastic ;D

y'know its really nice that you think so much of the old games and stuff, but most of us old ocean geriatrics are working on other stuff these days and don't really have the time to invest in recoding old mista.....classic games we were involved in.
And what pray tell was wrong with Rastan exactly hmmm, do you know how hard it was to fit all that stuff into a CPC? I'm not sure it is possible to improve that game, I'd developed crunch systems that were way ahead of their time to get so many sprites in, and the maps were all compressed and uncrunched at run time, so that we could fit it in. If I'd had 256K and a sprite chip it would have been better, but as it stands I had 32K of RAM to fit a couple of huge graphically detailed maps in, dozens of monster types and all the AI to drive it....all in all, it was as good a job as it could be...so be nice when you call games like that bad...( and it didn't flicker...I had double buffered screens on that to prevent flicker...)they were limited by the hardware they were running on, and the need to complete in a timely fashion...eh Lorra?

however
all that being said
if Simes wants to do the art, I'd be willing to mess about with a GBA version, I'm still a registered GBA developer and could put together a fairly effective 2D scroller engine....
Simes?

fair enough brian ;D Your Yie Ar Kung Fu conversion was really good and from your comments about that i got the idea re memory etc etc etc .... still would be good to see the ocean boys get together and make a game, afterall you lot produced some of the best games at the time even if rastan turned out poor because of the above. I, like alot of people would love to see what you guys could come up with on whatever machine format, just to see the ocean lads do their stuff again would be magic. cheers

I would be more than happy if we were doing this on a purely profitable basis...I'm too old too tired and too bloody lazy to do things for nothing...

It wasn't so much that the game was bad Brian.. more the pain of having to deal with a very grumpy programmer; more grumpy than your average programmer. ;D

Brian mate, myself as an author of some truly stinking arcade conversions of the 80's, sometimes you just need to look back and say, bah, ok, that one sucked!
A lot of the conversions back then could have been helped with £5000 of backup hardware - but we all did what we could.
People like John Brandwood in particular on Amstrad (Renegade and Gryzor) had a knack of capturing the arcade feel.
Hell, Mag Max on the 64 whilst having all the technical bells and whistles (full screen colour scrolling, stack sorted 64 sprite multiplexor, demand led decompressed map, blah blah) - still played like an utter, utter retard.
You live, you learn...

something on mobile or GBA would be nice..
i'm sure TAITO would have lots to say about an unlicensed version..
then again, CPC port or not, I thought rastan was a bit arse full stop
